Lakes and mountains and camping, oh my!

IMG_1498We did it!  We finally got to see the incredible beauty of Chile and then we made it home in one piece…high fives all around!

On Christmas day, we left for an 8 day road trip that took us through small towns, national parks, mountains and historic landmarks.  It. Was. Awesome.  Highlights included a hike near Lago Conguillo, where Jeff bemoaned not having the gear to bag the nearby snowcapped mountains; camping on Lago Villarica, where Rayna got her swing time in via our hammock; and the town of Frutillar, where we drank great beer, stared at a beautiful volcano and shared dinner with new friends who also had a wily toddler at a semi-fancy restaurant.

There were waterfalls, thermal pools, and some leaf eating.  It was just the break we needed to recharge and though I think Rayna was pretty over hours in her carseat by the end, we all had a great time.  We drove some 26 hours (and when I say we, I mean Jeff, the roadtrip allstar, while I sang along to Adele and kept us all entertained with various toys and snacks).  I got to swim in random rivers, Jeff got to ogle mountains while carrying Rayna in her hiking apartment, and we all got really dirty.  We couldn’t have asked for more.

We rang in the new year outside of Valdivia, and are looking forward to the things to come in 2016.  Our new year resolutions are evolving… mostly, we’d like to grow stronger in our faith, having peace with whatever God has in store for us.  Annnnd we’re also going to need strength as we do our best to parent a strong willed girl who is running around like the world is waiting for her to arrive (she ended the trip with a fat lip after running into the picnic table at our last campsite).  The year that just ended was insane, and we feel like we were maxed out by all of the changes and challenges.  But it was also utterly blessed and we are so thankful to have grown and laughed so much.  We know we are so fortunate to have each other and to have the support of so many of you, so thank you for that!

And here’s to all the adventure to come… Love!!!
